Deccani Studies Program: Hands-on training of architectural restoration work
Participants of the Deccani Studies Program visited JVM as part of the programme being an exploration of the Deccan’s cultural and architectural heritage (spearheaded by the Deccan Heritage Foundation, supported by Ashoka University, and the Harish & Bina Shah Foundation (HBSF)).
The group met and interacted with the different teams at JVM. Our Architecture Restoration team introduced them to various aspects of their work, including heritage conservation and its key processes; value assessment; historical, contextual and functional evolutions of JVM; the architectural styles of JVM and the various restoration work that are completed and are in progress at JVM.
Participants of the programme were given hands-on training of:
– Lime process and materials
– Preparation method and techniques
– Plastering techniques: bullmarking, tube level check, application of mortar, surface levelling and other basics of restoration work.
Keep an eye out for more updates from JVM and for our outreach events through which you can explore JVM!
**The Deccan Heritage Foundation-India (DHFI) has been carrying out the restoration process of JVM in collaboration with the University of Mysore.
