My experience with the Access Life-MAHE Manipal centre has shown me how compassionate, holistic support can transform the cancer journey for children and their families. The centre provides much more than a safe and hygienic place to stay. It offers emotional reassurance, education and nutritious meals prepared by caregivers, creating an atmosphere similar to home. This support enables families to focus on their child’s treatment without the added burden of managing everyday challenges alone. We are grateful to Harish and Bina Shah Foundation for helping bring hope, dignity and strength to these young warriors and their families when they need it most.

About the Partner

Since 2014, Access Life Assistance Foundation has supported children aged 0-14 undergoing cancer treatment and their caregivers. Through its ‘Home Away from Home’ centres near major cancer hospitals, it provides free accommodation to families travelling from underserved and remote parts of India to metropolitan cities for treatment. Its holistic support includes nutrition, transport, counselling and informal education, helping children continue treatment in a safe and caring environment. Access Life’s structured care model seeks to reduce treatment abandonment and support each child’s overall wellbeing. A customised digital management system enables the organisation to track individual progress and provide care with dignity and hope.

HBSF Engagement

Harish and Bina Shah Foundation’s grant supports operational expenses and set-up costs for Access Life centres in Chandigarh, Manipal, Madurai and Assam. This support helps provide children undergoing cancer treatment and their families with continued access to free accommodation, nutrition and transport, enabling them to remain close to treatment facilities in a safe and supportive environment.
