Deccan Heritage Foundation
About the Partner
Established in 2013, the Deccan Heritage Foundation (DHF) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to safeguarding the Deccan’s built heritage through socially responsible preservation and restoration. Working with local communities and experts in architecture, conservation and education, DHF aims to make the region’s architectural heritage sustainable and beneficial to its communities. Its work is guided by five pillars: knowledge, education, restoration, preservation and sustainability. Through research, heritage awareness, traditional restoration methods and community-focused conservation, DHF promotes local pride, educational value and the continued cultural use of heritage sites.
HBSF Engagement
With support from the Harish and Bina Shah Foundation, DHF is restoring the Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion Folklore Museum, located on the University of Mysore campus. Nefos, a next-generation museum management platform, has also been developed using artificial intelligence and smart features to enable detailed object cataloguing, conservation tracking and inventory control. It also connects the mansion’s collections with networks across India and beyond.
HBSF is also a founding co-sponsor of the Deccan studies programme, a field-based academic immersion developed by DHF and Ashoka University. Through on-site learning across the Deccan region, the programme prepares the next generation of heritage professionals.
