Educate Girls

Educate Girls
Millions of out-of-school girls (ages 6-29) in remote, rural India, often first-generation learners, face poverty, patriarchy, early marriages, and systemic barriers. This denies them education, voice, and agency, trapping them in cycles of inter-generational poverty and illiteracy.

Since 2007, Educate Girls has brought over 2 million girls back to education and improved the learning outcomes for over 2.4 million children by mobilising communities and partnering with governments across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Through door-to-door outreach, we identify out-of-school girls, convince families to enrol them, and support their retention and learning. Where formal schooling isn’t an option, Pragati, our second-chance programme, enables girls aged 15-29 to complete secondary education via state open schools.

Harish and Bina Shah Foundation has been a catalytic partner for the Educate Girls’ Pragati program since 2023-24. This early support helped enhance programme design, expand outreach to thousands of learners, and optimise state open school processes through technical assistance. With its renewed long-term grant commitment to Educate Girls’ Strategy 3.0, which represents a sustainable, scalable model for strengthening the education landscape in India, HBSF has now become a domestic anchor donor for the non-profit organization.
