Sahaara Charitable Society
Sahaara Charitable Society was founded in 1994 by a group of concerned citizens with the vision of “fulfilling dreams of the vulnerable and marginalised in society”.
Sahaara Charitable Society (SCS) empowers marginalised communities in Mumbai through education, care, and re-integration. Project Azad serves in Mumbai prisons and supports prisoners, and their families through legal aid, medical camps, vocational training, and re-integration services. Since 2016, 439 inmates have received bail or fine assistance, 51 medical camps have served 7,612 inmates, and 100 individuals have completed in-prison vocational training. Outside prison, 215 children of prisoners have received education sponsorships and 281 individuals have been placed in jobs.
The Harish and Bina Shah Foundation grant enables Project Azad to deliver legal aid, medical camps, in-prison training, and rehabilitation support for undertrial prisoners. It also supports education and livelihoods for their families, helping them transition out of prison life and build independent, dignified lives.
