SEARCH (Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health)
SEARCH is a healthcare research NGO that works with rural and tribal populations from the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, India, to bring evidence-based interventions to fill the gap in basic primary healthcare services, and facilities in order to improve their overall health outcomes.
SEARCH has been working with rural and tribal populations of Gond and Madea tribes in Gadchiroli district since 1986, by providing the much-needed healthcare services that are people-friendly and culturally sensitive to communities, by organizing specialised healthcare offerings through their 120+ bedded hospital and mobile medical unit. They serve the 12,00,000+ population of the district of Gadchiroli as well as adjoining districts and states. SEARCH is also active in mobilising the community in upholding the alcohol and tobacco ban in the district.
The grant from Harish and Bina Shah Foundation has supported the mobile medical van initiative for project NIRMAN, a youth leadership development project, to establish a neuro-rehabilitation centre and also, build the boundary wall and tiger fencing around the SEARCH campus. In a new initiative, the foundation is also supporting SEARCH to construct its central office building, thereby investing in organizational functioning and operational efficiency.
