About the Partner

Established in 1999, SNEHA works towards two goals: improving health-seeking behaviour among underserved communities and strengthening the quality of public health services. The organisation promotes community health awareness and nutrition education, facilitates access to public services, provides counselling to women facing violence and builds the capacity of frontline healthcare workers. Working across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and other parts of Maharashtra, SNEHA supports pregnant women, young children, adolescents, women facing violence, community members and frontline healthcare workers. It also partners with government institutions and non-governmental organisations to strengthen health and safety systems for women and children.

HBSF Engagement

The HBSF grant enables SNEHA to prevent and address violence against women and children through a community-led approach. Through the programme, SNEHA brings together women, men, couples, community volunteers known as Sanginis, religious leaders and public institutions to create safer communities. Group discussions, couple dialogues, community campaigns and creative activities promote positive gender norms and collective action. Sanginis and local groups help identify and support survivors, while collaboration with the police, hospitals and legal aid services improves access to protection, justice and essential care. The programme also develops an approach that can inform similar efforts in other urban settings.

*HBSF partnered with SNEHA from 2017-2022. The current partnership re-started in 2026.
