Teach for India
India is home to 30% of children, globally, living in extreme poverty. 1.1 million children in India don’t attend school. Teach For India is solving the problem of educational inequity by providing students from low-income communities with an excellent and equitable education, and overcoming generational poverty.
For the past 16 years, Teach For India (TFI) has been one of the leading education non-profit organizations in India. Since its inception in 2009, TFI has been improving the academic and holistic outcomes of students from low-income communities through its fellowship programme. Last year, ~1000 fellows placed in 250 schools across 8 cities reached ~33,000 students from underserved communities. 70%+ of our 5,300+ alumni now work in the education sector and they’ve started 160+ organizations and are reaching 100,000 students from marginalised backgrounds directly and 50 million, indirectly.
The Harish and Bina Shah Foundation grant will enable us at Teach For India to make progress towards our 2032 North Star goal. We aim to build 50,000 leaders who work collectively, with love to transform the lives of one in 10 children from low-income communities in our regions, through an excellent education.
