WaterAid India (Jal Seva Charitable Foundation)
Jal Seva Charitable Foundation works to improve access to clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene for everyone, everywhere with a focus on the marginalised and vulnerable communities in both rural and urban areas.

Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF) was registered in 2010 and began operating as an independent institution in India after becoming an associate member of the WaterAid Federation in 2016. Since 1986, WaterAid and later JSCF, have worked with rural and urban communities and governments to improve access to safe drinking water, safely managed sanitation, and hygiene services. Our scale-up strategy builds on community-level demonstration models and advocacy, engaging governments for wider adoption. Our interventions span across households, communities, schools, anganwadis, and healthcare facilities. Results include improved access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene for marginalised communities through innovative projects, institutional strengthening, and effective use of public resources.

The Harish and Bina Shah Foundation grant is being leveraged by the Jal Seva Charitable Foundation to advance its mission through a diverse approach focused on sustainable, community-led change. On the programmatic side, the grant supports the demonstration of disaster-resilient WASH infrastructure in climate-affected areas like Bhadrak in Odisha and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, where floods, cyclones, and droughts often damage water and sanitation systems. For system strengthening, the grant supports improvements in internal systems and processes of the organization, while also helping  build strong community-based institutions and encouraging inclusive, locally driven disaster preparedness and resilience at the grassroots level.
